phemyscira asked: "Thank you for creating this blog, I wanted to look for some Katniss fanart to reblog but I didn't want to search through whitewashed fanart to get it. This blog's existence makes me very happy."
You’re welcome! And we’re so happy you’re enjoying it.
peaceloveandafropuffs asked: "Naya Rivera expressed interest in playing Johanna?!? *clutches heart* Oh what could have been ... what could have been. :("
Yup.
I would love to play Johanna Mason. She’s the axe-wielding ex-tribute and former winner. She’s a grade-A badass!
Such a pity it didn’t happen.
lavagatrabajadoble asked: "I was just gonna ask who expressed interest in the role! Well, specifically I was gonna ask if Jesse Williams wanted to be Finnick"
Jesse tweeted about it and posted about Finnick on his Facebook fan page as well. Lionsgate nevertheless did not give a damn.
Hailee Steinfeld also expressed interest in playing Katniss. She’s white passing, but an improvement from Jennifer Lawrence.
Jesse Williams expressed interest in Finnick and Naya Rivera in Johanna. Both are established and famous actors. It’s a shame Lionsgate didn’t even consider them.
lavagatrabajadoble asked: "Fuck I honestly and completely forgot about that. Then i guess it's down to 10%. It's fucking Hollywood"
Yeah, unfortunately it is Hollywood. :/ Beetee is an improvement, but Beetee isn’t half as memorable as Jo or Finnick.
lavagatrabajadoble asked: "You know, even though it pisses me off that they only sook out caucasian actresses for Katniss, the fact that the films have cast several nonwhite actors as characters without a specific race and that most readers would assume are white kind of redeems them for me. Not completely, but maybe 60% to 70%."
Whitewashing the entire Seam, erasing the narrative inherent to it and casting a few minor characters here and there as PoC doesn’t redeem them in my eyes, but I’m glad it does for you. It’s not enough and they missed opportunities to cast Johanna and Finnick as PoC (esp. when two famous actors of color explicitly expressed INTEREST in the roles), but I mean? breadcrumbs are fine, I guess.
morsmordre-x asked: "Just a quick question. How do you feel about Oona Chaplin as Katniss?"
ooh, that’s a really interesting fancasting! she’s a little old for Katniss, but she’s gorgeous and a versatile actress. I can see it.
psychoticsheduck asked: "is jennifer lawrence, tanning for this movie considered racist? it looks like she;ll be even darker than part 1."
Hi, Iman here. I personally consider it to be racist as Katniss is described as olive-skinned in the book and is a person of color. Tanning is akin to but not quite brownface.
isobellrowley asked: "Do we know if WOC had a chance to audition for Johanna? Or was the casting call for white actresses?"
I think they realized after the Katniss casting call, they’d have a lot of angry people on their hands if they put out a casting call for white actresses for Johanna, so nope - it didn’t mention race in her casting call. However, it’s hard to know what their intentions were, and if they ever had considered casting a woman of color, or if they were set on casting a white person from the start.
someothermonstra asked: "Actually, the Nick Fury in the Avengers movie franchise is based off of Ultimates Nick Fury... whose design was inspired by Samuel L. Jackson himself. Try again, Anon."
Thanks!
Anonymous asked: "Wow! I can't believe someone said that the east coast is mostly white. I'm not white, I'm Indian, and I have Indian relatives living in North Carolina- right near where they shot the movie! They actually said there are a LOT of Indians where they live. People should not generalize an area like that. On the same note, the casting call for Katniss shouldn't have been only Caucasian if there are so many OLIVE SKINNED, BLACK HAIRED Indians living in NC right now."
Anonymous asked: "i come from appalachia. I am olive skinned alot of people from the hills of west virginia are. I attribute my skin color to my heritage i have native american in my blood as do alot of people from that region of the country. Olive skin does not mean brown black or bi racial. By defination it means to have a a green undertone or swarthy appearance. Most people from the mediteranian have olive skintones and are by defination caucasian. Cindy Crawford has olive skin."
wow you can’t read!!!
